Farm, Forest, and River Writer’s Retreat and Mini-workshop

Inaugural event September 12-15, 2022

Spend four days with a small group of other writers, both aspiring and published, working on our craft in the meditative peace of nature. This event emphasizes compassion and kindness, so please bring that along with your creativity!

Quiet writing

One-hour sessions (two daily) of focused writing. No talking. Variety of writing spots will be available. Bring your laptop or journal. Total weekly time of six hours. You can do more during your free time!

Sharing. Goals. Roadblocks. Breakthroughs

A little bit get-to-know-each other. Talk about your writing goals, what personally has hindered you, and breakthroughs to inspire others.

First of three skill building assignments designed to tap into your creativity and see the magic of rewriting. You’ll draw three sentences from a number of published examples (provided) and then dive into rewriting three different ways. Results will be shared and discussed the following day.

The Business of Writing: Non-fiction Proposals and Query Letters

Proposals and Queries are your key to getting in the door—at least the first one! In this session you’ll get an idea of just what goes into writing each of these, look at successful examples, and learn of resources for working on your own.

Writing Assignment 2: Rewriting another’s work “A change of Tense”

This second rewriting assignment will take one or more published paragraphs or pages (provided) and then rewrite by changing the tense (and use your sentence makeover work from the previous session). Results will be shared and discussed the following day.
