Spend four days with a small group of other writers, both aspiring and published, working on our craft in the meditative peace of nature. This event emphasizes compassion and kindness, so please bring that along with your creativity!




Details
Quiet writing
One-hour sessions (two daily) of focused writing. No talking. Variety of writing spots will be available. Bring your laptop or journal. Total weekly time of six hours. You can do more during your free time!
Sharing. Goals. Roadblocks. Breakthroughs
A little bit get-to-know-each other. Talk about your writing goals, what personally has hindered you, and breakthroughs to inspire others.
The Business of Writing: Paths to Publication 1 (Author guest speakers TBA)
Working with small to mid-sized traditional publishers through direct submissions. No agent required.
Also, the daunting hunt for an agent.
Writing Assignment 1: Rewriting another’s work: Sentence Makeover
First of three skill building assignments designed to tap into your creativity and see the magic of rewriting. You’ll draw three sentences from a number of published examples (provided) and then dive into rewriting three different ways. Results will be shared and discussed the following day.
The Business of Writing: Non-fiction Proposals and Query Letters
Proposals and Queries are your key to getting in the door—at least the first one! In this session you’ll get an idea of just what goes into writing each of these, look at successful examples, and learn of resources for working on your own.
Writing Assignment 2: Rewriting another’s work “A change of Tense”
This second rewriting assignment will take one or more published paragraphs or pages (provided) and then rewrite by changing the tense (and use your sentence makeover work from the previous session). Results will be shared and discussed the following day.

Focus on self-publishing and hybrid publishing. Pros and Cons.
The Business of Writing: The Synopsis, Why and How. Using Tools such as Scrivener, Dabble, Word
Organizing your work through writing applications. And how to write the dreaded synopsis—why it matters even if you don’t want an agent!
What’s Your Wordcount? Reading as Teaching: Going forward with your craft
Our last session! We’ll share our wordcounts for the week. Talk a bit about NaNoWriMo. And how to begin to use pleasure reading as your greatest teacher.
Nature Walks and More
Meditative hikes on our 24 acres of woodland and time by the beautiful Rogue River (on the day we spend there).
Meals
Breakfast and lunch included. A group (including any non-attendees traveling with you) final BBQ at the farm.

Separately priced. Options include one of three of our Airbnb listings (the Airstream, the Bunkhouse on the farm, and coming soon RiverHouse Suite. Also, a nice little travel trailer called the Comet.
